Reinforcing MoveSMART

Once employees are trained in Movesmart, remind them to use the philosophy and techniques. Promoting a company-wide safety effort will increase its impact.

  • Prioritize the desired benefits
    • injury prevention
    • safer behavior
    • increased morale, safety communications, and involvement
  • Measure positive change for each targeted benefit using statistical reports, interviews, and surveys
  • Reinforce measurement feedback

Monitor Safety Change

  • Attitudinal: are people receptive and willing to try new methods?
  • Behavioral: does behavior change, are learned techniques used or strategies shown during training applied?
  • Statistical: do performance measurements show significant improvement?

Chart Over Time

  • Initial reaction after training: did trainees like it?
  • Integrated response (2-6 weeks): did trainees learn and apply what was taught?
  • Sustained/stabilized (2-8 months): are trainees work and home habits safer?
  • Statistical fruit (9-24 months): do injuries decrease?

Reap Multiple Returns

  • Reinforce expectations through visual, mental, personal, and organizational means
  • Facilitate decisions for the next steps
  • Determine training validity--does it teach needed judgment and skills?
  • Make corrections to catch problems at an early stage
