Presenting MoveSMART to Management

Give an Overview Presentation, not a MoveSMART Training

Prepare

Know the Concerns
Figure out what management's concerns are about Movesmart. Talk to managers and pitch your remarks to what they want to know. You may emphasize the Benefits to them, such as, Movesmart will boost morale, show people this is a good place to work, keep people motivated to do their best. Be sure and avoid any problem areas or hot buttons that management may have.
Focus on Objectives
Remind yourself of what you want to accomplish by talking to management. Maybe it's to get their active support for Movesmart training.
Sample objectives:
You want them to attend some training sessions.
You need people released for training.
You'd like to see them actively supporting safety.
You want to prove that you are credible and are doing a good job in spreading the Movesmart philosophy.
Collect Information
Be fully ready when you get there. Gather Movesmart training evaluation forms, reports on how well the training has been received or has helped individuals, any statistics on reduction in injuries seen so far, stories about how the trainings are going.

Practice your presentation ahead of time--maybe someone in management can work with you and offer suggestions.

Present

Keep the presentation short--a maximum of forty-five to sixty minutes. You'll get better attendance if people know it won't take too much time and will be worth their while.

  • Start by thanking them for their time. Tell them you hope they find this helpful to them in many ways.
  • Give a quick agenda of what you will cover--you want to alert them to this exciting program and give them an opportunity to sample a part of it in a short time.
  • Review why Movesmart was brought in-- what problems it was hoped it would help with.
  • As an example, show a technique right away (we recommend Smart Hands). Do this quickly; remember, you are not there to train them, but to get their interest and hopefully, create excitement.
  • Mention other companies that have used Movesmart and results they have reported (much of this information is on our website--or we can send it to you).
  • Offer benefits: Movesmart is in the forefront of safety training, improves morale, helps reduce injuries, motivates workers about safety, etc.
  • Give them an idea of what comes next: training schedule, coaching and reinforcing the program.
  • Invite them to attend an entire training.
  • Ask for questions.
  • Let them know you are happy to answer any questions they might have later. Invite them to contact you (be sure to give them contact information).
  • Close, and thank them for their time and support.

Remember to focus and stay on track. Be okay with being interrupted but, when possible, redirect questions to the point you are trying to make--remember your objectives. Take control by letting others feel in control.
